FLEXOPLATE/DIGITAL CTP

Kodak Flexcel NX Plate

  • Flat tops with a stable shape produces consistent dots
  • Capable of high resolution (LPI) with dots as small as 10 microns
  • True size dots, one-to-one reproduction on the Thermal Imaging Layer

NX Dot Vs. Cyrel Dot

Traditional Digital CTP dots in comparison have rounded tops resulting in variable dot gain with the degree of over-impression. As shown below, the Flexcel NX plate has sharper and smaller dots resulting in more consistent dots gain even with over-impression.

Dot Ink Comparison

Traditional CTP (shown below), cannot retain highlight dots without image correction. Also, the overall image looks posterized with shadow tones plugging up. With dot correction (shown below right), resulting image looks flat and muddy due to limited tonal range.

With Flexcel NX plates, you will be able to print the way the designer intended.

Digital Plates are created without the use of negative. Instead of film, a black layer is embedded onto the plate material. The digital platesetter, a Kodak Thermoflex, by means of a laser beam, images the information directly on the surface of the plate.

After a plate has been imaged, it is processed in the same manner as a conventional plate. However, since there is no film, no vacuum or cover sheet is needed. The result is less light scatter and greater reproduction.

analog vs. digital
The dots on a digital plate are slightly smaller and are more rounded shape than a dot on a traditional flexo plate.

printed dot

This results in a more accurate printed dot, more control and less gain on press.
